my ranting about genome:
Chemicals, cells, and organisms are all described as having intentional behavior. All would agree that a molecule cannot hold ‘purpose’ and yet the ‘purpose’ of molecules is spoken of. We speak of order and the way something is designed. And yet, we assume that there was no designer. Then why the order. Why is positive attracted to negative. Why are there rules to chemistry…physics… The order, the design, the purpose. They are used metaphorically of course, but only because there is really no other explanation. Microorganisms, cells, and chemicals have no will of their own, and yet they are described with active verbs all the time. Because they seem to act. And yet, in ‘reality,’ reactions are simply happening…simply following an order written down by the mindless universe. Atoms do not ‘share’ electrons…the electrons are simply shared. It must be passive because the atoms do not have the capability to act. Nor do chemicals react with one another…a reaction simply occurs. It seems impossible to avoid, and yet, it does seem to be the most scientifically correct way to describe things aside from intelligent design. I can never recall a conversation about evolution that did not use terms of purpose, will, or design. Organisms are always ‘trying’ to improve. The are ‘realizing’ what they lack. They are ‘preparing’ for future needs. As if a thoughtless cell has a mind that is so developed beyond our own that it can predict the future. Believe in evolution if you will, but even evolution cannot occur without design. There is a God.
