I’m growing used to this façade,

It’s getting hard to see

Where my face end and my soul begins.

And I wonder if you can tell.

Can you tell?

I keep putting my best foot forward,

But my other foot’s starting to drag.

And soon I’m gonna stumble.

I’ll be crawling on my hand and knees.

I’ll be scraping up my knees.

I’ll be scarred and burned and hardened.

But I’ll be on my way to free.

And when you’re disappointed,

I’ll show you what this means:

What you see is what you get.

I’m growing tired of this game,

It’s getting hard to win

When all the rules are changing.

I’m about to walk away.

Run far away.

We started out playing with fire,

But now we’re fighting with guns.

And I lost something I needed,

Now I’m finding who I am.

I’m still afraid of who I am.

I’ll be bitter, mean and ugly.

But I’ll be on my way to free.

And when I disappoint you,

I’ll show you what this means:

What you see is what you get.

I’m growing weaker everyday.

It’s getting hard to stand

When the tide is slowly rising.

And I don’t know how to swim.

I can’t swim.

I’m learning to be honest

Even though I’ve been wearing a veil.

You’ll try to be accepting,

And you say you want to see.

But I’m not what you want to see.

I’ll be hurt, alone and angry,

But I’ll be on my way to free.

And when you disappoint me,

I’ll start learning what this means:

What you see is what you get.

And I’ll wish I would have shown you,

‘Cuz what you see is what you get.

What you can’t see, you just can’t get.

Isaiah 44:18

They know nothing, they understand nothing;
their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see,
and their minds closed so they cannot understand.
