Forgotten

Always the shadow that follows behind

The vaguest reflection erased by the wind.

Like a black and white photo that’s left in the sun,

The contrast is fading; Memory undone.

An old favourite toy that’s been overlooked

By the one who first loved it, for a shiny new book.

A small child’s blanket that’s been worn to bare threads

On a pile of discarded rags and cloth shreds.

Something forgotten, replaced, traded in.

Something too small to be kept in the end.

Something unneeded, unwanted, ignored.

Someone who just isn’t loved anymore.

Psalm 13:1

How long, O LORD ? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
